An ancient design shaped by a cross with four equal arms which bend at right angles. This design, which could also be a religious symbol, is used by many cultures. In some cultures it represents the sun. Swastikas are frequently used in the field and border of rugs. A version of swastika became the official symbol of Nazi Germany in 1935.

- Police Arrest 3 In Synagogue Vandalism: Police said they arrested two men and one juvenile on Tuesday in connection with Sunday's incidents in which the word "nazi&quo t; was written and swastikas were drawn on signs at the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation and the Beth Tfiloh Community School. Authorities said at about 3 a.m. Sunday, an officer did a routine stolen vehicle check on a car with three people inside it that was near the scene of the crimes.
